“My time at BSC was nothing short of transformative. From the age of 3 until I graduated, BSC became more than just a school – it was my second home. Every nook and cranny held memories, from lifelong friendships forged in classrooms to the supportive teachers and staff who guided me along the way. BSC fostered a culture of interdisciplinary exploration and encouraged me to pursue my interests, whether it was through engaging in debates, treading the boards in school productions, or representing Sri Lanka as a part of the national Robotics Team. And I am truly grateful that I was able to end my journey serving as Head Boy, giving back to the community that had shaped me. Despite the steep learning curve that awaited me I left feeling genuinely prepared to tackle the next four years in university.
I was fortunate enough to be offered spots at a range of top institutions around the world from being awarded full ride scholarships from Duke University, Johns Hopkins University and Amherst college/ Columbia (combined engineering degree) to earning a place in Imperial College London and UCL . I ultimately decided on Duke University, drawn to its vibrant community and stellar academic programs and looking back I can’t see myself anywhere else.
At Duke, I have embraced a diverse range of opportunities while planning to major in Mechanical Engineering and Statistics and pursuing an Energy and Environment certificate. The university’s supportive environment has enabled me to pursue my passions both inside and outside the classroom, whether it’s by conducting research at the Bergin Lab, being named a Repass-Rodger scholar and engaging in marine engineering, or embarking on transformative experiences abroad as apart of DukeEngage. A journey that started at BSC has now taken me to Duke, and I can’t wait to see where else it takes me as I continue to pursue my interests at the intersection of engineering and the environment.”
