A Roaring Adventure: Year 1’s Exciting Trip to the Zoo

Written by:

This term, Year 1 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure at the local zoo, where they had the chance to observe one of nature’s most magnificent creatures—the lion! This trip was part of our English lesson, inspired by the story The Lion Inside, which teaches children about courage and self-belief.

Excitement in the Air

From the moment the children boarded the bus, their enthusiasm was contagious. With packed snacks and eager smiles, they chatted about the different animals they hoped to see. The excitement was even greater knowing they would see lions up close, just like the brave little mouse in The Lion Inside who found his inner roar.

Connecting Literature with Real Life

The children carefully observed the lions’ behaviours. Some lions were resting, while others were playfully interacting with each other. This hands-on experience helped them connect the story of The Lion Inside to real-life animal behaviour. They discussed how the little mouse in the book learned that courage comes in all shapes and sizes—just like in the animal kingdom.

A Day to Remember After visiting the lions, the students explored other exhibits, including the giraffes, elephants, and monkeys. They enjoyed a picnic lunch in the shade before heading back to school, filled with new knowledge and a deeper understanding of both the animal world and the themes of bravery and self-confidence from The Lion Inside.

The field trip was a fantastic learning opportunity, sparking curiosity and appreciation for wildlife while reinforcing important lessons in English. We are proud of our young explorers and look forward to more adventures in learning!
