Inter-House Netball Tournament: A Celebration of Skill, Teamwork, and Sportsmanship

March witnessed an action-packed and thrilling Inter-House Netball Tournament at The British School in Colombo, with students from Years 3 to 6 showcasing their netball abilities, teamwork, and determination. The event was held over two days: the Year 3 and 4 girls on March 27th, and the Year 5 and 6 boys on March 28th.

Year 3 and 4 Girls’ Tournament Highlights (27th March)

The Year 3 and 4 girls took to the netball court, focusing on applying the basic skills they’ve been learning during PE lessons and netball ECAs. Through the games, they demonstrated remarkable growth as they learned from their mistakes and worked together to improve with each match. The competition was full of energy, and it was inspiring to see how much progress they made, with teams showcasing skills such as passing, shooting, and defense that they had worked so hard on in their lessons.

After a series of exciting matches, the results were as follows:

  • 1st Place: Centaur
  • 2nd Place: Unicorn
  • 3rd Place: Griffin
  • 4th Place: Hobbit

Outstanding individual performances were recognized, with the following players taking home the special awards:

  • Best Shooter: Linda (Centaur)
  • Center Court Player: Filomena (Unicorn)
  • Defensive Player: Aleena (Griffin)

Year 5 and 6 Boys’ Tournament Highlights (28th March)

For the first time ever, a boys’ competition was held for the Year 5 and 6 students, marking a new and exciting milestone in our school’s sporting history. The boys demonstrated excellent skills, team coordination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. Their performances showed the strength of teamwork, with players learning the importance of communication and strategy as they navigated the challenges of their first competitive netball tournament.

The final standings were as follows:

  • 1st Place: Hobbit
  • 2nd Place: Griffin
  • 3rd Place: Centaur
  • 4th Place: Unicorn

Special individual awards were given to the following outstanding players:

  • Best Shooter: Sehan (Hobbit)
  • Center Court Player: Zayd (Hobbit)
  • Defensive Player: Aiden Pathirana (Griffin)

Year 5 and 6 Girls’ Tournament Highlights (27th March)

The Year 5 and 6 girls also competed with incredible energy and skill. The matches were intense, showcasing the athletes’ determination and team spirit. After the final whistle, the rankings were as follows:

  • 1st Place: Hobbit
  • 2nd Place: Centaur
  • 3rd Place: Griffin
  • 4th Place: Unicorn

The standout players in the girls’ tournament were:

  • Best Shooter: Sansa (Hobbit)
  • Center Court Player: Githsaara (Hobbit)
  • Defensive Player: Szofi (Centaur)

A Celebration of Teamwork and Sportsmanship

This year’s tournament was a wonderful demonstration of not only individual talent but also the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Students cheered for each other, celebrated victories together, and displayed resilience even in the face of challenges.
