This term marked the introduction of an exciting new extracurricular activity in the Junior School – Horse Riding! Launched in January 2025, this programme has provided students with the opportunity to develop confidence, discipline, and responsibility while learning essential horsemanship skills.
Over the past few months, our first group of six students from Years 4 to 6 has successfully and safely completed the term, gaining hands-on experience in riding, grooming, and stable management. Under the guidance of trained instructors at the Ceylon Riding Club, students learned the fundamentals of mounting and dismounting, balance and posture, rein control, and basic riding techniques. Beyond the technical skills, they also developed patience, empathy, and a deep appreciation for these magnificent animals.
Safety has been a top priority throughout the term. Following British Horse Society standards, we ensured that all riders had access to proper equipment, trained handlers, and a structured learning environment to make this experience both enjoyable and secure.
Looking Ahead: Join Us in the Summer Term!
With the success of our first term, we are now inviting new students to join us in the Summer Term! If your child is in Year 4 to 6 and interested in learning to ride, developing new skills, and building confidence in a unique setting, we would love to welcome them.
Sessions take place on Tuesdays from 2:45 – 4:15 PM at the Ceylon Riding Club, Port City, Colombo. This is a paid ECA, and spaces are limited.
For more details or to register, please contact Ms. Indira at indira.attygalle@britishschool.lk.
We look forward to another fantastic term of horse riding and welcoming new riders to this incredible experience!
