On Saturday, 22nd February 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the Environment Society of The British School in Colombo hosted a Climate Fresk workshop, an engaging and educational session designed to deepen students’ understanding of climate change. This workshop was conducted by Ms. Zofia Mlocek, a certified Climate Fresk facilitator and a landscape architect and urban designer who is a passionate environmentalist.
The workshop provided an incredible opportunity for students to explore climate science, regardless of their prior knowledge or background in the subject.
Climate Fresk is a globally recognized initiative that simplifies complex climate science into an interactive and collaborative experience. In just three hours, participants gained a solid foundation in climate science, understanding the causes, consequences, and interconnected nature of climate change.
The workshop is built on scientific facts, ensuring a neutral and objective approach while empowering individuals to take meaningful action.
During the session, students worked together in groups to create visual representations of climate change concepts, making the learning process both dynamic and engaging. The activity encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving, helping students see the bigger picture of climate change and its impact on our planet.
By the end of the workshop, participants had formed a strong bond with one another and were equipped with practical strategies to contribute to climate action within their communities.
The workshop highlighted the importance of education in driving climate action. Students left with a clearer understanding of how climate systems function and how individual and collective efforts can make a difference. The Climate Fresk approach encourages open and constructive conversations about environmental challenges, making it an effective tool for inspiring real change.
A huge thank you to Ms. Cini, head of geography and the teacher in charge of the Environment Society for organizing this insightful and impactful session. Her dedication to climate education has given us the chance to engage with environmental issues in a meaningful way, even though we are not climate scientists. This experience has empowered us to “play our part in the climate transition” and become more responsible global citizens.
The Climate Fresk movement is growing worldwide, and this workshop has shown us how powerful knowledge and collaboration can be in tackling climate change.
Let’s continue to take action and make a difference!
