Leap into Reading: Inspiring Young Conservationists

Written by:

This week, we proudly celebrated our second Sponsored Leap into Reading event with a special visit from conservationists at the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society (WNPS). During our Junior School assembly, we had the opportunity to learn how the funds we raised last year have made a real difference—supporting the use of trail cameras to track leopard movement and migration in rural areas of Sri Lanka.

It was fascinating to discover how these cameras are helping conservationists gather vital data on land use and identify both animal and human activity along the trails. This information is crucial in understanding food sources, movement patterns, and potential threats to leopard populations. Our pupils were captivated by the incredible images and videos shared—we gasped with excitement as we glimpsed leopards and other wildlife in their natural habitats.

We are proud to continue our partnership with WNPS. This year, the funds raised through our sponsored read will support a new education initiative aimed at rural school students. The project will empower young people to become advocates for leopards in their communities and inspire future careers in conservation.

Together, we are reading for a cause—and making a lasting impact.
