Today, one of our BSC Alums, Shenara Fernando (Batch of ’25) stopped by at lunch break to provide useful tips and guidance for our next batch of students preparing to sit A Level History Exams this year. Shenara, who earned an outstanding A grade for the very challenging Cambridge A Level History Exam in June 2025, volunteered his time to come speak to our students about his experiences before setting off for further studies in Economics at the University of Bristol.
To an audience of Year 12 and Year 13 students, Shenara provided poignant commentary on exam study tips that highlighted the need for regular and consistent revision as students head into Mock Examinations in January. In addition, Shenara provided useful tips on effective incorporation of AI into study habits, cautioning students to use it “as a tool,” by having it play the role of a potential examiner. However, as Shenara noted, AI’s use in helping with the actual content memorization are limited. Shenara emphasized the need to keep notes up-to-date when it comes to a content-heavy subject like History and encouraged students to collate their notes at home on a daily basis while also using apps to help create digital timelines and flashcards. Sara Musajee reflected, “It was comforting to know that the work I am doing now is on track.”
Meanwhile, Kavishma Perera said, “It was helpful to get a unique perspective about doing what is required to succeed in A Level History.” Overall, our students benefited tremendously from Shenara’s insight as they continue their A Level History journey. The History Department is grateful to Shenara for coming in to speak with our students and wish him all the best as he enters the next phase of his academic journey!
