🎉 Another month of hands-on learning, exciting discoveries, and scientific breakthroughs at BSC! Here’s what our young scientists have been up to:
🔬 Year 7 – Shocking Discoveries in Electricity! Our Year 7 students were electrified—literally! They experimented with static electricity by rubbing plastic rulers on their hair and watching in amazement as tiny paper pieces stuck to the rulers.

But science isn’t just about fun; they researched real-world dangers of static electricity, uncovering fascinating facts about petrol station hazards, lightning, and more!⚡️

The excitement continued as they explored current and circuits, constructing parallel and series circuits, measuring currents with ammeters, and even using PHET simulations to check the reliability of their experiments. Technology + Science = an electrifying experience!

💡 Acids & Bases—Beyond the Classroom! Remember last month’s natural indicators experiment? This time, students took science home! During PTC days, each student hunted for household substances, read labels, and created charts categorizing items as acidic, basic, or neutral. Learning went beyond the classroom and into their daily lives!

🌊 Year 8 – Making Waves! Our Year 8 students dove into the world of waves! Using slinky springs, they explored longitudinal and transverse waves, experimenting with ways to increase amplitude and frequency. It was a hands-on, high-energy experience, as they physically saw how waves move and behave.

🧬 Year 9 – DNA Models & Flower Dissections! Some Year 9 students continued crafting their DNA models, but this time with a twist! After hearing feedback from their peers, they improved their designs, tackled engineering challenges, and even mastered using glue guns for the first time. This STEAM-based project had them problem-solving and appreciating the intricate double-helix nature of life itself!

Meanwhile, other Year 9 students explored plant reproduction by dissecting flowers. Each student picked a flower from home, carefully identified its floral structures, and discovered the diversity of plant anatomy firsthand!

🍃 Year 10 – Photosynthesis in Action! Forget just reading about photosynthesis—our Year 10 students grew their own experiments! They prepared plants at home to study how different factors, like light, impact photosynthesis. This gave them a first-hand experience of setting up scientific experiments and seeing biology in motion. 🌿

Year 11 – Physics Practical: Marbles & Motion 🎱✨ Another exciting practical! Year 11s used marbles to study motion and momentum, sharpening their skills for the IGCSE exams! 📏⚡

🧪 Year 12 – Enzymes & Chemical Reactions! Year 12 students got hands-on with enzymes and reaction rates! They explored how temperature affects enzyme activity and conducted the sodium alginate bead experiment to visualize immobilized enzymes in action. Learning has never been so interactive!

⚗️ Year 12 Chemistry – Mastering Practical Skills! Our Year 12 chemistry students sharpened their skills with practical paper practice, ensuring they’re lab-ready for future challenges. 🧑🔬

🔥 Year 10 Chemistry – Metals on the Move! Students conducted experiments on how metals react with water, acids, and oxygen, observing first-hand the reactivity series in action.

🏥 Year 13 – Medical Physics in Action! Our Year 13 students stepped into the world of medical physics, delivering presentations on real-world applications—from X-rays to MRI scans—showcasing how physics saves lives!

🛠 Year 11 – Radioactive Revelations! IGCSE students practiced their practical paper, using cubes to simulate radioactive decay and half-life calculations. Who knew physics could be this radioactive-ly fun? ☢️

🎓 Mini-Subject Selection Event! A brand-new initiative at BSC! This year, students currently studying science subjects took charge and educated Year 9 and Year 11 students about subject choices, what the science department offers, and the exciting projects they work on. It was a fantastic peer-to-peer learning experience, and our science stall was buzzing with curiosity and enthusiasm!

🧪🔬⚛️ Another month, another chapter of scientific exploration! Stay tuned for more hands-on experiments, discoveries, and breakthroughs next month. 🚀
