On Saturday, 3rd May 2025, students and staff from The British School in Colombo came together for a truly impactful event — our Beach Clean-Up at Dehiwala Beach. Organised by Griffin House, this initiative brought together Year 5, Year 6 and senior school Environmental Society students in a united effort to care for our environment.

Despite the looming clouds, spirits were high and the energy was infectious as over 100 participants, donned in their vibrant House colours, took to the shoreline. Armed with gloves, reusable bags, and a deep sense of purpose, our young environmental champions worked diligently to make a visible difference to the coastal landscape.
In just two and a half hours, our community collected a staggering 459 kilograms of waste, with 356 kilograms of it being plastic. This remarkable effort served as a real-world lesson in sustainability, responsibility and teamwork.
The event was not just about picking up litter — it was about making a statement. Our students showed that small, collective actions can lead to significant change.
